Conversational AI interface designed to boost engagement and reduce churn.

The Atlantic, one of the most respected publications in the world, needed more than a redesign — it needed a digital transformation. With over a century of storytelling heritage, The Atlantic sought to modernize its platform while preserving the depth and trust its readers value most. Y Interval partnered with their product and design teams to rebuild the web experience, improve performance, and integrate data-driven personalization powered by AI — all while maintaining the publication’s signature voice and aesthetic.
The Atlantic’s digital experience had to balance two opposing forces — the intimacy of quality journalism and the scale of modern content consumption. The existing system was fragmented: outdated CMS workflows, inconsistent mobile rendering, and limited data visibility into reader behavior. They needed a solution that not only looked and felt premium but also performed like a modern SaaS-grade platform — fast, adaptive, and intelligent.
Y Interval collaborated with The Atlantic’s in-house team to completely revamp the product architecture and design system. We migrated the publication to a modern, modular frontend (Next.js + TypeScript) and a robust content backend, enabling seamless article delivery across devices. To enhance engagement, our AI engineers built a personalization layer that surfaces articles based on reading patterns, session duration, and editorial categories — all while maintaining editorial integrity and reader trust. We also introduced a real-time analytics dashboard, giving editors and product managers insight into trending stories, user retention, and conversion metrics. The interface was redesigned for speed, readability, and focus — removing clutter and elevating The Atlantic’s journalism to shine through every pixel. All of this came together under a shared goal: to bring The Atlantic’s timeless brand into a new era of intelligent storytelling.
